  • Where is Yew Counselling located and what is the access like?
My counselling room is in my garden accessed through the side entrance of my property, located off Tring High Street. Access involves two low steps from the patio and into the room itself. The address will be supplied when a session is arranged.
  • Where would I find parking?
The closest car park is the Tring Library car park which is a 3 minute walk from my house. Sometimes parking is available in my street as it has no restrictions, but spaces are limited.
  • How do I make contact?
You can call me on the mobile number, or text me, or send me an email, and I will get back to you ASAP and within 24 hours.
  • How much does a session cost?
My fee is £60 per session, payable at the end of the session by cash or bank transfer. I offer a reduction for student counsellors.
  • How long does a session last, how often are they, and how many will I need?
Each session lasts 50 minutes and they are usually every week at the same appointment time. The number of sessions you may need will very much depend on your reasons for accessing counselling support, and your financial constraints. I would hope that we can manage the ending in a way that seems fitting for you and respectful of the counselling process. Even if I feel that our work is incomplete, I will entirely accept your decision to end.
  • Is the fee payable for the first session?
I am unable to offer any free sessions but I would offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation before starting face to face or Zoom sessions. During this conversation we would decide whether we were a good fit for each other ahead of the first session. I would then book your first session at a mutually acceptable date and time. If after that session you change your mind, there would be no obligation to continue seeing me. I would then delete your contact details.
  • What happens in the first session?
If you are coming for face-to-face counselling I will greet you at the side entrance to my property and escort you to the counselling room. If you are coming for remote counselling via Zoom, I will email you the Zoom invitation at least 24 hours before the session is due to start, and I will start the Zoom session at the specified time. My main aim will be to help you to feel safe and at ease so that you are able to explain your circumstances and what is troubling you. Like all sessions, this will be led by you and at the pace you feel comfortable with. I will ask you to fill in a form with your contact details, and your GP’s name and address, and any medication that you currently take. I will also explain the working agreement, which we will both sign, and the limits to confidentiality.
  • What happens if I need to cancel a session?
I ask that you give me as much notice as possible of your need to cancel. If the cancellation is less than 24 hours before the appointment a fee of £10 is payable. Booked sessions will incur the full fee should you miss a session without cancelling beforehand.
  • What happens if I have a complaint?
All concerns will be treated seriously and confidentially. I would hope that if you had any cause for complaint you would first feel able to raise it informally with me within the safety of the therapeutic relationship and together we would resolve the concern. Most concerns should be settled in this way. Should the informal direct approach not resolve it, there is a complaints procedure outlined for formal complaints. Please ask for a copy.
